Independence Day Celebration at School

In 1947 India was divided into two independent states- India and Pakistan. Once Bangladesh was a part of Pakistan. It was then called East Pakistan. The rules of Pakistan made East Pakistan their colony (উপনিবেশ). The Bangladeshis protested against this. As a result, on the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistani Army fell upon the innocent unarmed Bangladeshis and started killing them mercilessly. On March 26, independence was declared and our people took up arms to fight the Pakistani occupation forces. So, March 26 is the Independence Day of Bangladesh.

On March 26 this year we celebrated the Independence Day in our school in a befitting manner. We decorated the school. At 6 a.m. we hoisted our national flag with the slogans “Joy Bangla”. Our Headmaster gave us an educative talk on the flag hoisting ceremony. Sweets were distributed among the school students at 9 a.m.

The variety show was to begin by 2 p.m. So, we again came to school on time. There was a large gathering. The function began with the singing of our national anthem. There were some recitations, songs and caricature befitting the occasion. Our Headmaster gave a very long talk on the real significance of Independence Day.

In the evening we lighted our school building with coloured bulbs. It seemed as if we had the festival of light. Thus, the function came to a close.

In this way, we celebrated the Independence Day in our school. The day will come round every year and by the Grace of Almighty, we shall celebrate it in a befitting (উপযুক্ত) manner.
