A Wise Initiative against a Big Mistake
Tina is an adolescent girl. She has been married at the age of fifteen. In the meantime, she has come to know that bearing child before twenty is ruinous for both mother and baby. So, Tina
requested her husband Rahmat to discuss pregnancy with a counsellor. After coming to know about the dangers, Rahmat agreed to delay having child for five years although his parents and neighbours were pressurizing them to have. They met a female health care provider, who informed them about various family planning options available in the country. Tina’s mother-in-law and other in-laws continued their pressure on the newly wed couple. Thus a rift was created between Tina and Rahmat and their extended family, who believed in deeply rooted cultural practices and tradition. Unable to convince them of the risks, the couple went to the counsellor. He agreed to talk to those unconscious people. He came to their house and explained the harmful effects of early pregnancy to them. They were now convinced. Today they no longer pressurize the couple; they now support then and also speak out against early marriage and pregnancy.
