Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that is identified by the high blood sugar level. Increased blood glucose level damages the vital organs. Diabetes is a lifelong disease that can affect both children and adults. It is a very common disease in the world.
There are two types of diabetes mellitus. They are Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is also known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. This type is classified by a deficiency of insulin in the blood. The deficiency is caused by the loss of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. This usually occurs in people less than thirty years of age. Type 1 diabetes is also hereditary. Frequent urination, thirst, weight loss, constant hunger, etc are common symptoms of this type. Most patients with type 1 diabetes require regular administration of insulin.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most common type of diabetes in people. This type of diabetes mellitus is generally attributed to lifestyle factors like obesity, low physical activity, unhealthy diet, excess consumption of sugar in the form of sweets, drinks, etc.
Diabetes is a very serious disease with many life-threatening consequences. It is a disease that causes an abnormally high level of sugar, or glucose, to build up in the blood. But if it is taken care of properly, diabetics can live a normal life.
