Crabbed Age and Youth
Cannot live together;
Youth is full of pleasance,
Age is full of care;
Youth like summer morn.
Age like winter weather;
Youth like summer brave.
Age like winter bare.
Youth is full of sport.
Age’s breath is short;
Youth is nimble, Age is lame;
Youth is hot and bold.
Age is weak and cold;
Youth is wild, and Age is tame.
Age, I do abhor thee;
Youth, I do adore thee;
O, my Love, my Love is young!
Age, I do defy thee;
O, sweet shepherd, hie thee!
For methinks thou stay’s too long.
বৃদ্ধ বয়স এবং যৌবন
একসাথে বাস করতে পারে না;
যৌবন হলো আনন্দে পূর্ণ,
বার্ধক্য হলো উদ্বেগের;
যৌবন গ্রীষ্মের সকালের মতো।
বার্ধক্য শীতের আবহাওয়া মতো;
যৌবন জ্বলজ্বলে গ্রীষ্ম।
বার্ধক্য বিবর্ণ শীত।
যৌবন ক্রীড়াপূর্ণ,
বার্ধক্য অল্পপ্রাণ,
যৌবন দ্রুতগামী, বার্ধক্য খোঁড়া;
যৌবন উষ্ণ এবং দুঃসাহসিক
বার্ধক্য শীতল এবং নিস্তেজ,
যৌবন উন্মত্ত, বার্ধক্য নম্র,
বার্ধক্য, আমি তোমার বন্দনা করি;
ও, আমার ভালোবাসা, আমার ভালোবাসা তরুণ;
বার্ধক্য আমি তোমাকে অবজ্ঞা করি;
ও, প্রিয় মেষপালক, তোমাকে আড়াল করো!
আমার মনে হয়, তোমার স্থিতি খুব দীর্ঘ।
The Theme : In this poem the poet sings the song of the victory of the youth. According to him, youth is full of pleasure, bravery and sportiveness. On the contrary. Old people oppose the change, but the youth struggle and wait for change. Change is the law of nature. So the opposition of the old against change is meaningless, and that’s why, the youth are vectors as they strive for change in society.
(এই কবিতায় কবি যৌবনের জয় গান করেন। তার মতে যৌবন আনন্দ, বীরত্ব আর ফুর্তিতেপূর্ণ। পক্ষান্তরে, পৌঢ়ত্ব উদ্বেগ উৎকণ্ঠায় পরিপূর্ণ। পৌঁঢ় লোকজন ভীরু প্রকৃতির হয়। তারা ঝুঁকি নিতে চায় না। পৌঁঢ় লোকজন পরিবর্তনশীলতার পথে অন্তরায় সৃষ্টি করে, তবে যুবকরা পরিবর্তনশীলতার জন্য লড়াই করে এবং অপেক্ষা করে। পরিবর্তনশীলতাই প্রকৃতির নিয়ম। তাই প্রৌঢ়দের পরিবর্তনশীলতার বিরোধিতা করা অর্থহীন আর সে কারণে যুবকরা ধারক ও বাহক কেননা তারা সমাজের পরিবর্তনশীলতার জন্য লড়াই করে।)
