The Little Boy Lost
William Blake (1757 – 1827)
Father! Father! Where are you going?
Oh, do not walk so fast!
Speak, father, speak to your little boy,
Or else I shall be lost.
The night was dark, no father was there,
The child was wet with dew;
The mire was deep, & the child did weep,
And away the vapour flew.
বাবা! বাবা! তুমি কোথায় যাচ্ছো?
ওহ, এত দ্রুত হাঁটতে পারছি না!
কথা বলো, বাবা, কথা বলো তোমার ছোট্ট সোনার সাথে,
নয়তো আমি হারিয়ে যাব।
রাত ছিল অন্ধকারময়, কোনো বাবা ছিল না সেখানে,
শিশুটি ছিল শিশিরভেজা;
কর্দম ছিল গভীর, শিশুটি কাঁদছিল,
আর কুয়াশা উড়ে গেল।
The Theme : In the poem the father symbolizes God and the boy stands for human being, who is surrounded by worldly things. So the boy can’t see his father. That’s why, the theme of the poem can be the isolation of human beings from God.
