The Crocodile

How doth the little crocodile
Improve his shining tail.
And pour the waters of the Nile
On every shining scale?
How cheerfully he seems to grin.
How neatly spreads his claws,
And welcome little fishes in
With gently smiling jaws!
কেমন করে ছোট্ট কুমিরটি
তার চকচকে লেজ আরো চকচকে করে,
আর নীল নদের সমস্ত পানি
প্রতিটি সোনালি আঁশে ঢালে!
কত না আনন্দে সে দাঁত বের করে হাসে
কত সুন্দর করে তার থাবা ছড়িয়ে রাখে,
আর ছোট ছোট মাছেদের স্বাগত জানায়,
তার নম্র হাস্যোজ্জ্বল চোয়াল দিয়ে!
The Theme : The poem is a parodic lyric where a crocodile develops with a natural perfection but hunts with a feigned gentleness. It wishes to be busy like Satan who is busy deceiving men.
