Tree at My Window

Tree at my window, window tree,
My sash is lowered when night comes on;
But let there never be curtain drawn
Between You and me.
Vague dream-head lifted out of the ground,
And thing next most diffuse to cloud,
Not all your light tongues talking aloud
Could be profound.
But tree, I have seen you taken and tossed.
And if you have seen me when I slept.
You have seen me when I was taken and swept
And all but lost.
That day she put our heads together,
Fate had her imagination about her,
Your head so much concerned with outer.
Mine with inner, weather.
বাতায়ন পাশে তরু, বাতায়ন তরু
আমার উত্তরীয় নত করা হয় যখন রাত্রি নামে
কিন্তু যবনিকা কভু নামে না
তোমার ও আমার মাঝে
অস্পষ্ট স্বপ্নে ধরাশায়ন হতে শির উত্তোলিত হয়
আর সবকিছু মেঘের মতো ছড়িয়ে পড়ে
তোমার উচ্চৈঃম্বরে বলা সব সহজ কথাই
গভীর নয়
কিন্তু হে তরু, আমি তোমাকে এপাশ ওপাশ হতে দেখেছি,
আর, আমি যখন ঘুমিয়ে থাকি, তুমি যদি আমায় দেখে থাক
তুমি আমায় দেখ যখন আমি বিষণ্ণ এবং ক্রন্দনরত থাকি
আর সব কিছুই হারিয়ে যায়
সেই দিন সে আমাদের একসাথে করেছিল
ভাগ্যও তার কল্পনা করেছিল
তোমার শির কেবলই বাহ্যিক চিন্তামগ্ন
আর আমি, অন্তরের।
The Theme : The nature-loving poet doesn’t want separation with the tree at his window. At night when window sash is lovered and the tree is screened from his view, he sees the shadow outline of the tree with his mind’s eye. Both the poet and the tree are destined to fate. Man has inner conflict whereas tree has outer conflict for rough weather like cold air. The cause behind man’s inner conflict may be his torturing thoughts.
(প্রকৃতি প্রেমী কবি জানালার পাশে অবস্থিত গাছের সাথে বিচ্ছেদ চান না। রাতে যখন জানালার সার্সি নামানো হয় এবং তাঁর দৃষ্টি থেকে গাছটি আড়াল হয় তখন তিনি তাঁর মনশ্চক্ষু দিয়ে গাছটির প্রতিচ্ছায়া দেখেন। কবি ও গাছ উভয়ের অবস্থা নিয়তি নির্ধারিত। মানুষের আছে অন্তর্নিহিত দ্বিধা-দ্বন্ধ। পক্ষান্তরে গাছের আছে বাতাসের মত খারাপ আবহাওয়ার জন্যে বাইরের দুর্যোগ। মানুষের অন্তর্নিহিত দ্বিধা দ্বন্দ্বের কারণ যাতনামূলক চিন্তা ভাবনা।)
