Main idea : Great and memorable enterprises on earth can't be achieved overnight. Incessant work and labour brings achievements on earth.
Amplification : Life is an epitome of risks, hazards and perils. Here success, achievement or gains are not easy to get. We have to pass through extreme difficulties and risks to make our work fruitful and victorious. Stooping to failure may mar our power and will. But, we have to be determined to achieve our success in life. We can think about the city of Rome which was once the capital of the mightiest empire of the ancient world. But this mighty empire was not built up in a year or so. Generation after generation, Romans had to work hard with patience and perseverance to raise its glory. Similar is the case with all our actions on earth. Everybody desires greatness, but very few attain it. Thus, we shouldn't lose our patience and perseverance. We shouldn't lose heart under the initial difficulties and give up altogether in despair. Rather we have to work with firm determination in the face of all difficulties. We may fail once or twice or even repeatedly; still we carry on bravely and firmly until success comes in the end. In fact, our constant effort must bring success for us. Men of perseverance are sure to be adorned with success in life. All the successful and great men of the world were industrious and patient. Success came to them for this trait. Indeed, nothing great can be achieved without patient and labour.

মূলভাব : পৃথিবীতে মহান ও স্মরণীয় উদ্যোগ রাতারাতি অর্জন করা যেতে পারে না। অবিরাম কর্ম ও শ্রম পৃথিবীতে মহৎকীর্তি প্রবর্তিত করে।
ভাবসম্প্রসারণ : জীবন ঝুঁকি, আকস্মিক ঘটনা ও বিপদের একটি সার-সংক্ষেপ। এখানে সাফল্য, কৃতিত্ব অথবা উপার্জন লাভ করা সহজ নয়। আমাদের কাজকে ফলপ্রসূ ও বিজয়ী করতে আমাদেরকে অত্যন্ত ঝামেলা ও ঝুঁকির মধ্য দিয়ে অতিক্রম করতে হবে। ব্যর্থতার কাছে নিজেকে অবনত করা আমাদের শক্তি ও ইচ্ছাকে অনিষ্ট করতে পারে। কিন্তু আমাদের জীবনে। সাফল্য অর্জন করতে আমাদেরকে দৃঢ়প্রতিজ্ঞ হতে হবে। আমরা রোম নগরী সম্বন্ধে চিন্তা করতে পারি যা একদা প্রাচীন বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে শক্তিশালী সাম্রাজ্যের রাজধানী ছিল। কিন্তু এই শক্তিশালী সাম্রাজ্য একবছরে বা এর কাছাকাছি সময়ে নির্মিত হয়নি। এর গৌরব তুলে ধরতে রোমবাসীদের প্রজন্মের পর প্রজন্ম ধরে ধৈর্য ও অধ্যবসায়ের সাথে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করতে হয়েছিল। পৃথিবীতে আমাদের সকল কার্য একই ঘটনার মতো। প্রত্যেকেই মহত্ত্বের কাঙাল, কিন্তু খুব স্বল্প কয়েকজন এটি লাভ করতে পারে। এভাবে আমাদের ধৈর্য ও অধ্যবসায় হারানো উচিত নয়। আমাদের প্রাথমিক ঝামেলায় নিরুৎসাহিত হওয়া ও হতাশায় একেবারে সবকিছু পরিত্যাগ করা উচিত নয়। বরং আমাদের সব ঝামেলা মোকাবিলায় দৃঢ়সংকল্পের সাথে কাজ করতে হবে। আমরা এক বা দুইবার বা সম্ভবত বারংবার ব্যর্থ হতে পারি তথাপি সাফল্য না আসা পর্যন্ত আমরা সাহস ও দৃঢ়তার সাথে আমাদের প্রচেষ্টা চালিয়ে যাব। বস্তুত আমাদের অবিরাম প্রচেষ্টা অবশ্যই আমাদের জন্য সাফল্য বয়ে নিয়ে আসবে। অধ্যবসায়ী ব্যক্তিরা নিশ্চিতভাবে জীবনে সাফল্যে ভূষিত হবে। বিশ্বের সকল সফল ও মহান ব্যক্তিরা পরিশ্রমী ও ধৈর্যশীল ছিলেন। এই বিশেষ লক্ষণের সাফল্য তাদের কাছে ধরা দিয়েছিল। বস্তুত ধৈর্য ও শ্রম ছাড়া মহৎ কোনো কিছুই অর্জন করা যেতে পারে না।

Rome was once the most prosperous empire in the world. It flourished in all-around glory and greatness. But it did not attain its glory and greatness in a day. It was the fruit of long years and many generations.
The success of life depends upon hard labour and consistent effort. Great things can be achieved only by perseverance and hard labour. Success in life does not come in a day. It requires years of patient labour and hard work.
