Subject : The fair held in my village.
Dear Mahbub,
Thank you for your mail. You are very much curious to know about the village
fair that is held in our village every year. You know, the fair in our village
is held on the 1st day of the month of Boishakh. So, it is known as Boishakhi
Mela across the country, you know, It is held every year under the old banyan
tree adjacent to our college field. A week or so before the date of the fair,
traders begin to come from all over the district also and from outside. They
select sites and set up their booths and stalls. Hotels and tea-stalls spring
up quickly. Circus parties set-up tens. Earthen were, pots, dolls, vessels
with beautiful designs on them, are piled up under temporary roofs. Wooden
toys and furniture are piled up in the open spaces. The fair starts on the
Pahela Boishakh. The day’s programme start at down with a song of Rabindranath
Tagore, ‘Esho he Boishakh, Esho, Esho,’ People of all ages and classes
come to the fair. Shill sounds of pipes, whistles, and mouth organs add
variety to the noise of human voice. It is beyond description. Don’t miss it
next year.
Stay well,
Masum
