Prosperity brings friends, adversity tries them.
সমৃদ্ধি বন্ধু আনে, প্রতিকূল পরিস্থিতি তাদের পরখ করে।
Main idea : Friendship is a divine quality. We need real friends in our life. We have to be careful in case of choosing friends.
Amplification : Men cannot live alone. He wants persons with whom he can mix and converse freely. exchanging thoughts and ideas, hopes and fears. But everybody with whom we mix and converse is not a friend in the true sense of the term. Some gather round us only in our hey-days for their interest. But when we fall in evil days, they leave us altogether. They are selfish and opportunist. They deceive us in disguise of friendship. They flatter us and play the role of a sycophant. They are false friends. Their company is contagious. We should avoid such friends by all means. The real character of a friend can be judged in our adversity. Real friends are like touch stone in our life. They stand by our time in weal and woe. They even sacrifice their lives for our sake. They don't leave their friends in their evil days. They stand by their side with helpful mentality. Such friends are the source of faith and pleasures. Thus, We have to be careful about fair weather friends.
বঙ্গানুবাদ
মূলভাব : বন্ধুত্ব একটি স্বর্গীয় গুণ। আমাদের জীবনে বন্ধু প্রয়োজন। বন্ধু নির্বাচনের ক্ষেত্রে আমাদের সতর্ক হতে হবে।
ভাবসম্প্রসারণ : মানুষ একা বাস করতে পারে না। সে মানুষ চায় যার সাথে সে অবাধে মিশতে পারে ও আলাপ করতে পারে, চিন্তা ও ভাবনা, আশা ও উদ্বেগ বিনিময় করতে পারে। কিন্তু প্রত্যেকে যাদের সঙ্গে আমরা মিশি ও কথাবার্তা বলি তারা নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে প্রকৃত অর্থে বন্ধু নয়। অনেকে তাদের স্বার্থে আমাদের চারদিকে জড়ো হয় কেবল আমাদের সমৃদ্ধির সময়ে। কিন্তু যখন মন্দ সময়ে আমাদের পতন হয়, তখন তারা একেবারে আমাদের ছেড়ে চলে যায়। তারা স্বার্থপর ও সুবিধাবাদী। তারা বন্ধুত্বের আড়ালে আমাদের সাথে প্রতারণা করে। তারা আমাদের তোষামোদ করে এবং মোসাহেবির ভূমিকা পালন করে। তারা মিথ্যা বন্ধু। তাদের সঙ্গ সংক্রামক। আমাদের উচিত যেকোনো উপায়ে এমন বন্ধুদের পরিহার করা। আমাদের দৈবদুর্বিপাকে একজন বন্ধুর আসল চরিত্র বিচার করা যেতে পারে। আমাদের জীবনে প্রকৃত বন্ধু পরশ। পাথরের ন্যায়। তারা আমানের সুখে ও দুঃখে আমাদের পাশে দাঁড়ায়। তারা এমনকি আমাদের স্বার্থে তাদের জীবনও উৎসর্গ করে। তারা দুঃসময়ে তাদের বন্ধুদের ছেড়ে যায় না। তারা সহায়ক মানসিকতা নিয়ে তাদের বন্ধুদের পাশে দাঁড়ায়। এমন বন্ধু বিশ্বাস ও আনন্দের উৎস। সুতরাং সুসময়ের বন্ধুদের ব্যাপারে আমাদের সতর্ক থাকতে হবে।

Man can't live alone as he is a social being. He wants people with whom he can mix and talk. They are his companions. Among them, there might be one or two whom he likes. He is called a friend.
On the other hand, a true friend is very rare in this world. Some only come to satisfy their selfish motives. They share in our happiness but leave us as soon as we fall on evil days. They are false friends.
But a true friend never leaves us in times of need and danger. He remains faithful to us in our happiness and sorrow alike.
