Mugdho’s Sacrifice to Establish Rightful Demand
From the very young age, Mughdo always spoke up against injustice. So, when he saw the students fighting against the fascist Hasina government for their rightful demand of quota reform, he could not sit idle in the house.
On 18 July 2024, Mugdho set out to distribute food and water to the protestors who took part in the anti-discrimination students movement. He came out with water bottles and boxes of biscuits in hands. “Water, water, who needs water?” was Mugdho’s voice on July 18 when he joined the protesters whom he delieved to be fighting for justice. Suddenly, law enforcers opened fire to disperse the crowd, and a bullet struck his forehead, exiting through his right ear. Doctors declared him dead upon arrival at Crescent Hospital. His selfless act of service, captured in a video just minutes before of the student-led uprising, highlighting the struggle for justice and change in Bangladesh.
Mugdho was honored as a martyr, with various tributes, including the renaming of a public space in his memory and the distribution of “Mugdho” water bottles at protests. His legacy continues to inspire activists and serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of justice and reform in Bangladesh.
