Ozymandias

I met a traveller from and antique land
Who said : ‘Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things.
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear;
‘My name is Ozymandias, king of kings;
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck. boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
প্রাচীন ভূমি থেকে আসা এক ভ্রমণকারীর সাথে আমার সাক্ষাৎ হয়

আমার কর্মের দিকে তাকাও, হে পরাক্রমশালী এবং হতাশ হও!”

নিঃসঙ্গ ও সমতল মরু টেনেহিচড়ে নিয়ে গেছে অনেক দূরে।
The Theme : The central theme of the poem is ‘the meaninglessness of power and pride’. The poet relates human life to the decay and destruction of the broken statue. The poem suggests that the work of art bears records of what has passed away. The statue in the poem is the symbol of pride and absolute power. The broken statue implies that nothing lasts forever. Rather, everything is bound to decay in the passage of time.
